Emma shares this latest news from the Earl Mountbatten Hospice. Ed
‘We’re not scary and we really don’t bite’ – that is the message from Earl Mountbatten Hospice’s shop managers as a recruitment drive is launched to find over 100 new retail volunteers this Halloween.
A variety of customer-facing roles are available at shops right across the Island, as well as shifts to help sort donations at our donation centres in Newport and Lake. You can find out where there are currently volunteer vacancies by visiting our Website.
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer at one of the hospice’s ten shops or donation centres is urged to pop in and have a chat with the manager to find out more about what it entails.
Kath Bright, Retail Operations Manager, said:
“The retail operation is a huge part of our charity and every year the donations from our amazing Island community raises £250,000 towards the £7m it costs to run our services.
“We’re seeing an increasing amount of stock donated every year, and this means that we really need more volunteers to help get the donations back out to our shops, which also need volunteers to stock the shelves and serve customers. Pop in to any shop and you’ll see for yourself the great atmosphere and camaraderie!”
Nigel Hartley, Chief Executive, said:
“It is clear that our shops have an important role on our Island’s high streets and they are very much part of their local communities. Volunteers can expect to be given a huge welcome into our Queen’s Award winning team, along with the knowledge that your involvement will really make a difference to the care we give to Islanders coming to the end of life, as well as their families.
“Even if you can only spare a few hours, it would mean so much to those we support and those we will support in the future.”
All of our shops are fully stocked for Halloween with a great range of products and fancy dress items. You can find our shops opening times and locations on our website
