Many thanks to Peter Stephenson for his report on activities down at Binnel Bay back in May and again, last weekend.
St Lawrence “¦ always a beautiful place to be … Beach Cleaning 2007
About 70-80 residents of St Lawrence gave up their time to collect over 100 bin bags of non bio-degradable rubbish from the beaches at Woody Bay and Binnel Bay St Lawrence this Spring and Summer 2007.
Approx. 40 residents cleared over 70 bags from Woody Bay on 19th May this year and carried them up the steep wooden steps and walked a further 800 metres to Martin Goodyear’s (Landscape Gardener) trailer, who kindly took them to the tip.
Having worked up a thirst and an appetite, many residents stayed for a BBQ and a bonfire on the beach – an excellent village social event!
On Saturday just gone, approximately 30 residents cleared the beach at Binnel Bay – the bin bags were kindly donated by VENTNOR BREWERY. As there was no transport arranged to dispose of the rubbish, we were lucky enough to bump into Andy, a Shorwell resident, who was walking his 2 Jack Russell dogs.
Andy became aware of our plight and very kindly offered to take our rubbish to the tip in his truck , that was parked nearby. We “beach clearers” climbed the steps and walked about 1000 metres to the truck and piled the rubbish in the back”¦..A HUGE THANK YOU TO YOU ANDY – OUR HERO!
As is now the custom, an enjoyable BBQ and bonfire followed, and of course, we invited Andy to join us.
What a very satisfying way to spend a beautiful St Lawrence evening”¦.ahhh!!!
