News reaches us that Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Simon Hughes MP, is back on the Island today to meet with Liberal Democrat members.
Readers will remember that Simon Hughes visited protesting Vestas workers back in August when he was interviewed by Steve Stotesbury.
At the time he promised to return to the Island to push for an increase in green jobs on the Island and agreed to take part in discussions with the college and businesses to help make this happen.
We understand that he’ll be meeting his colleagues this evening to formulate local policy for renewable energy following presentations from experts in the different renewable energy fields.
Jill Wareham, Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, said “we are really pleased to welcome Simon Hughes back to the Island for the second time in less than a month.
“Simon visited the Island during the Vestas’ workers protest and met both management and workers so understands the wind turbine issues for the Island. This visit is focused on meeting with our members to give the national picture on renewable energy to assist us in developing our local policies.
“Simon’s visit is timely because of the international debate on climate change and the local economy of the Island.”
