Sixth straight win for Ryde rowers at Swanage Regatta

Thanks to Steve for this report from Ryde Rowing Club. In his own words. Ed

There was more success for Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Club at Swanage Regatta on Saturday, 21st June, where, with no local club, the Hants & Dorset Rowing Association takes on the organisation with the Association’s Secretary, Ryde’s Steve Bull acting as Regatta Secretary and Controller – and the club providing the officials lunches as their contribution to the event.

Sixth straight win
It was a sixth straight win at this season’s Hants & Dorset Championship Regatta’s for the Ryde Men’s Junior Senior Four of Stephen Johnson, Adam Edwards, Ollie Gove and James Cleary with Sam Brading coxing – as they edge ever nearer to taking this championship and the Ladies Junior Pair of Jodie Cocker and Steph Kissick also celebrated success with their fourth win of the season in their event.

There were encouraging performances from the two Men’s Novice Crews of – the “A” crew of Sam Brading, Callum Lockhart, James Smith and Will Ford with Andy Hicks coxing narrowly missing out on a place in the final.

One of the best for younger rowers
The young “B” Crew of Ben Toms, Dom Douglas, Jacob Redstone and Joel Smith – with Austin Smith coxing – who have an average age of just 15 producing one of their best rows of the season although, they too just failed to reach the final.

With one change – Tom Kearney racing instead of Ben Toms – they did better in the Boy’s J16 Fours Final where they finished in fourth place – and the Club was able to assist Island neighbours Shanklin – with Ben Toms covering for a missing Shanklin member in the same event.

Men’s teams
Men’s Novice Sculler – Andy Hicks – produced his best performance of the season so far, winning his heat and finishing 2nd in the final – but Ryde’s Second Novice Sculler – Dale Buckett – just failed to make the final – in his first competitive outing of the season.

Men’s Senior Sculler Mick Jenner finished fourth in his final.
