South East’s cold snap triggers Amber alert and health concerns

A Cold-Health Alert,  issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Met Office, has been updated in the South East from Yellow to Amber.

These types of alerts are issued when the temperature is either very hot or very cold.

Snow flurries
As already reported the Met Office issued a weather warning for ice, and we have already seen small snow flurries in Ventnor this lunchtime.

Lower temperatures can impact the health of those in the 65+ age group or those with certain underlying health conditions.

What is the alert for?
The Cold-Health Alert is issued to notify those working in the health and care sectors, but they also prove a useful reminder to check on older or vulnerable neighbours.

The Amber Cold-Health Alert  will be in effect between noon on Monday 8th January and noon on Friday 12th January 2024.
