Southern Vectis say rise in ticket prices is due to increase in operational costs

Beginning on Sunday 3rd September, Isle of Wight bus operator, Southern Vectis, will be making adjustments to some of its fares.

The company states that like other enterprises, it is grappling with the challenge of rising operational costs.

Reasons for the increase
Southern Vectis explained the need for the fare adjustments, highlighting that the increase in prices is crucial for them to maintain the level of service they currently offer to their patrons.

However, they assure that despite the adjustments, their tickets remain a good value for money.

It is worth noting that these changes will primarily affect Southern Vectis period passes and Rover Tickets, but all single fares will continue to be priced at £2 until the end of October. It’s been hinted that the operator will then offer single fares at £2.50, but that’s yet to be confirmed.

Which tickets are affected?
The fare changes will impact Multi-day, Freedom, and Rover Tickets.

The company underlines their commitment to their customers, clarifying that the decision to review and subsequently increase certain fares has been a reluctant one. Keeping the best interests of its passengers in mind, they say they’ve endeavoured to limit these price hikes as much as possible.

Specific fare changes
For local travellers, the single adult fares in Newport will see a 20p rise. Meanwhile, child single fares and transfer single tickets will increase by 10p.

Those utilising the Nightrider service should be aware that fares for this specific service will be adjusted to £7.

Savings via the Mobile App
Southern Vectis suggests using their mobile app to get the most value from their services. It’s claimed to be the most cost-effective method for buying tickets.

For those purchasing single and day tickets, the company recommends the “Tap On Tap Off” paperless ticketing system as a convenient alternative.

For a comprehensive understanding of the new fare structure, Southern Vectis will be updating a full list of fares on their platform, which will be effective from 3rd September.
