Speedway: Lineup confirmed for Thursday’s races

Bryn shares more news from the Wightlink Warriors. Ed

It has now been confirmed that Wightlink Warriors’ No.1, Benji, is not fit enough to ride in Thursday’s home National Trophy encounter with the Mildenhall Fen Tigers.

Given that, team manager Neil Vatcher has moved quickly to replace him and has secured the services of 22 year old Joseph ‘Joe’ Jacobs who, after taking last year out of the sport to earn money to buy brand new equipment to compete in the top flight, has returned to ride for the Belle Vue Aces in this year’s Sky Sports Elite League.

Him riding for us in Thursday’s match against the Fen Tigers means he’ll be lining up against his 2014 National League club for whom he finished second in their averages on a figure of 8.63.

In 2014 he also rode for Peterborough in the Premier League before switching to the Workington Comets mid-season

Lee Springthorpe fills blank space in Fen Tigers lineup
The blank space at reserve in Mildenhall’s side on Thursday will be filled by 37 years young, Leicester-based, Lee Springthorpe who is a relatively late convert to speedway after gaining many years experience of other motorcycle off-road disciplines. Described by friends as being a “somewhat lively character,” he’ll be looking to improve upon his showing for the Fen Tigers in Sunday’s home defeat to Birmingham where after winning his first race, he failed to score in his next two outings.

JJ signs on
The Isle of Wight Warriors are delighted to now be in a position to announce the capture of Elite League Belle Vue Aces rider Joe Jacobs as a temporary replacement for their injured No.1 Benji Compton who has discovered that he has broken his scaphoid when he crashed at Mildenhall back on the 17th April.

Revealing the news our team manager Neil Vatcher said, “For us to be able to sign Joe is a major boost to the Warriors as we enter a busy time of the season in our quest to win some honours and we are sure that once he gets dialled in around the fast Smallbrook circuit, he will be a top class rider in this league we’re competing in, the National League. Even though Joe is still only 22 years old, he has vast experience of the National League scene.”

We of course look forward to seeing Joe in action and introducing him to the fans on Thursday when he makes his debut, subject to BSPA approval, against his former club Mildenhall in our National Trophy match against them with the first race scheduled to start at 7pm.

A further reminder that, off track, there’s fun galore planned once again with all manner of competitions and prizes to go to the winners so the message is come on down to Ashey Road for a night of thrills, spills, fun — a great night out for young and old and, remember kids with a paying adult come in FREE!
