Sporting Talent Recognised At Awards Ceremony

Last night saw the 37th Annual Sports Achievement Awards take place at the Riverside Centre in Newport.

As with last year, we were once again blown away by the sporting talent the Isle of Wight can be proud to call its own.

From nine year old Molly Fenimore who picked up the Junior Girls Award to John Bell with her 40 years of service to sport, the talent was spread across the ages.

Address from chair of Island Games Association
David Ball chairman if the Island Games Association gave a speech after the Nomination Certifications were handed out.

He shared with the audience the history of finally winning the Island Games for the Isle of Wight (third time lucky). Highlighting the success of the Primary School Island Games, David went on to confirm that Kelly Sotherton and Darren Mew were due to take part in this year’s NatWest Island Games in June/July.

His party advice for the young people in the audience was “Don’t give up, look to the future, believe in yourselves, got for it and work for it.”

Well done to everybody involved
Congratulations to all the nominated sportspeople as well as the award winnners.
