An update about the St Catherine’s Charity shop in Newport. Ed
It was only last Wednesday (4th August) that Ventnor-based charity, St Catherine’s, which works to support children and young people with speech, language and communication disabilities, learned that it had to vacate its charity shop premises on the High Street in Newport by Sunday 8th August.
Thanks to the herculean work of dozens of volunteers over the weekend, St Catherine’s new charity shop – diagonally opposite the Post Office in Newport’s High Street – opened its doors at 12 noon on Wednesday this week.
The Chair of the charity’s trustees, Dr Paddie Collyer, cut the red ribbon at the Grand Opening, expressing her delight at St Catherine’s having managed to secure new premises in record-breaking time.
Keep donating
As Kim Fry, St Catherine’s Community Fundraiser, explained, “The shop – which relies solely on donated goods – has raised over £50,000 in the past 12 months to support our work with disadvantaged children and young people so it’s great that we can continue to operate despite our unexpected relocation.
“Donations of all sorts are urgently required so that we can keep on serving our loyal customers. If you have any toys, books, electrical goods, clothes, kitchenware, bric-a-brac or even furniture in need of a good home, please drop them into our new shop when you’re next in Newport High Street. We also make collections for larger items -so do, please, let us know because every little helps.”
