As you may have seen on the VB Twitter stream last night, Chris Bonney won the election at St Lawrence ward of the Ventnor Town Council. Guess we should call him Cllr Bonney now.
It was a close-run thing with him getting 107 votes and Maureen Cawley getting 99. Three ballot papers were rejected.
St Lawrence is a small ward, so the 209 votes cast represented a healthy turn out of 33.44%.
After the count Maureen Cawley was gracious in defeat, announcing, “This is the very last time that I’m going to do this, so I’m going to be a lady that lunches from now on.”
Post-count speeches
Listen to the two candidate’s post-count speeches (sadly we missed the start of Chris Bonney’s) …

Undercliff Drive & Military Road a priority
We also caught up with Chris Bonney to ask him what he felt were the first issues for his new role as councillor for St Lawrence – main thing – Start looking at the roads around the area – Undercliff Drive and the Military Road – and more.
Have a listen …
