Here’s a chat we recorded with someone who has been visiting Ventnor for years – bringing their pounds to spend in the town – not liking the idea of the proposed Mill Bay development.
Interestingly she says that she lives where there are high rises blocks, and that the (current) lack of these is one reason that she likes coming to Ventnor.
The most shocking comment I heard was from someone who I’d been chatting to earlier, who actually said that they would “stop coming to Ventnor if tall buildings like that were built!” They felt the town was losing what was special about it.
This is a significant contrast to claims by some of the towns property developers who say that they are carrying out these developments to ‘help’ the town and draw more visitors.
Wonder who we should believe? [audio:http://otw-audio.s3.amazonaws.com/fell-runner-no-blocks.mp3]
