Temporary toilets to be provided during refurbishment works

Readers will remember the news we reported last week in relation to residents’ concern over the lack of public toilets in Ventnor.

Since the Market Street toilets had been closed by the Isle of Wight council (IWC) as part of their budget cuts, it was argued that whilst Marlborough Road toilets are closed for seven weeks of refurbishment, the closest alternative for shoppers and visitors to the town would be at the bottom of the steep cascade.

Ward councillor Chris Welsford has been in discussions with the IWC for the last few weeks working to ensure that the IWC provide an alternative for residents.

Temporary toilets agreed
It was confirmed at the Ventnor Town Council (VTC) meeting on Monday night that the IWC had now agreed to provide temporary public toilets in the Central car park during the works.

Mayor Steve Stubbing confirmed that the refurbishment work would be taking place from the end of January until mid-March.

It was not yet known what type of temporary toilets would be provided.

Well done to all involved.
