The Blue Touch Paper project has involved a range of Deaf and disabled people creating and performing a high quality carnival presentation entitled ‘Sarava St George’.
The presentation is styled on a traditional Rio Style Samba performance and includes a Flag Bearer and Master of Ceremonies (pictured above), an integrated Samba Band – the Boom Tribe – and sections of costumes depicting the St George and Dragon storyline.
Rio connection
Sarava St George is particularly pertinent as the Olympic and Paralympic Games are formally handed over to Rio on Sunday as part of the Closing Ceremony.
The New Carnival Company will build on this Rio connection and continue to work with a sister carnival and disability project in Brazil – Embaixadores d Alegria over the next four years.
The New Carnival Company is the only Island based arts organisation that has been contracted to perform in the Olympic Park.
Look out next week for a report with photos from the event.
