The Solent Hawks Ice Hockey team, founded in 2013, with help from Sport England and the Big Lottery Fund welcome a new financial boost that will secure the team’s future, allowing them to keep supporting young adults on the Isle of Wight.

The team was formed last year to help young people continue in the sport of ice hockey after the age of 18 and also to introduce new people into the sport.

The Solent Hawks are now fully self-funded and continue to provide the same level of opportunity as it did with the backing from Sport England.

Martin Rich, Head of advertisement and sponsorship said,

“We are thrilled with the response from local companies when we reached out for help. The generosity have overwhelmed us and the team can move forward into the new season with all the equipment and training needed.

“We are always trying to think of new ways to help fund the team and extra support like this is always welcome.”

Aspirations to play ice hockey?
The team currently train on Tuesday evenings at Ryde Ice Arena and would encourage anyone that would like to try the sport to come down.

James Eklund, Team Manager said,

“With the help we have been given from Hong Kong Express, iFix and other local businesses, we’re able to continue to offer free trial sessions to anyone wishing to try the sport.

“Once you tried it you will keep coming back.”
