Totally Local Fiver Fest returns to Ryde to help protect and save the High Street for the future

From Breakfasts, Bagels and Baguettes to vintage Bus Seats, Voice coaching and Tree Climbing, Ryde has a great selection of special offers this fortnight as part of the National Totally Locally Fiver Fest Campaign.

Ryde’s independent shops and businesses are once again joining in with the National Totally Locally Fiver Fest Campaign, running from 12th to 26th June. Joining over 100 towns across the UK, 40 Ryde based businesses are coming together to highlight the contribution they make to our community.

£2.7 million could be generated for local economy
The Fiver Fest message is simple, spend little and often at independent businesses to make a real difference to your high street.

If every adult in Ryde spent just £5 per week then it would generate around £2.7 million going directly back into the local economy.

Thompson: Just think local first
Zoe Thompson, Ryde Business Association Chair explains,

“There has been a real buzz about this Fiver Fest, both locally and within other UK towns. After the last year, much more emphasis has been placed on the importance of the local independents, and I think with the Lockdowns we have all had the experience of what happens when we lose them.

“Fiver Fest is a great way to just remind everyone, that you don’t need to change everything about the way you shop. Just think local first, and spend little and often to help really support what is on our doorstep.”

Anderson: The perfect excuse for a stroll down to Ryde
Czara-Lee Anderson of newly opened ‘Her Whey’, a zero-waste shop in Cross St is one of the businesses taking part in Ryde’s Fiver Fest.

“I’m so excited to be a part of Fiver Fest Ryde this year, it’s a fantastic way to welcome everyone back to the high street.

“As a new business owner in Ryde, it’s really important to me to support my fellow small businesses, we have such a fantastic community… if you haven’t been out to see it yet, this is the perfect excuse for a stroll down!”

Thompson: A great reason to spend some time in Ryde
Zoe added,

“With 40 businesses putting on offer’s over the Fiver Fest Fortnight there really is something for everyone.

“It is a great reason to spend some time in Ryde, and have an explore, revisiting the familiar shops as well as take in the new businesses we are lucky to have had start up in Ryde over the last few months.”

Dicks: Retro double coach seats for just a fiver
Deemed one of the most unusual Fiver Fest offers in the UK this year comes from the IW Bus and Coach Museum. Situated at the Bus Depot, Park Road in Ryde, the restoration of old vehicles lends itself to promoting recycling and upcycling. Not wanting things to go to waste.

Brian Dicks, Museum Secretary states,

“Our promotion for Fiver Fest, is we are selling upcycled Almex Ticket Machines and surplus retro double coach seats for just a fiver.

“The seats are ideal for a man/woman cave! Limited to one set per person while stocks last.”

The Bus Museum is free entry, open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday 10am-4pm.
