This has not been a good week for the worldwide wind turbine manufacturer, Vestas.
Vestas announced earlier in the week that the closure of five plants across Scandinavia would result in 3,000 job losses.
Not clear if it’ll affect the Isle of Wight
Obviously their operation on the Isle of Wight is confined to R&D, but we got in touch with them anyway to find out if the downturn in the wind turbine industry would affect jobs on the Island.
Unfortunately, we’ve yet to receive news to allay fears of possible knock-on effect, but will update this article as soon as we receive a response.
Death at US plant
In addition to the above, we also understand that they’re having to deal with an industrial death at one of their US plants this week.
John Keel, who worked for Southlake, Texas-based Transportation Technology Services Inc., at the Vestas Plant in Colorado, died after being pinned between pinned between a flatbed railroad car and a large forklift.
Our thoughts go out to the friends and family of Mr Keel who died at just aged just 21.
