Obviously everybody has heard about the volunteers re-building the road at Undercliff Drive, so residents can actually drive to their homes after eight months of not being able to.
You’ve could well have seen photos of it too, after all, we’ve put out quite a few of them on the articles that we’ve been publishing.
Photos only take you so far though, so OnTheWight thought it might be helpful for everyone to see videos.
We’ve got two.
The walk
The first we shot on Friday, when we were waiting to find out what was going to happen about the road being blocked again.
We hoped to try and get across quite how solid the road appears to be. We walked along the length of the re-built road, so from there you get a good idea of how long it actually is.
We point out where the hardcore had been compacted down and left at a 45 degree angle to provide stability; the join between the old roads, as was, and the new section; continuing onto the section that is wider than previously, enabling cars to pass.
The drive
The second was shot the day before, on Thursday, and is the drive from the locked gate, up the rise, over the repaired road, then onto the second barrier, that blocks the access to where the really damaged section is.
Ours was the only car that has driven over it that wasn’t owned by a resident.
