Back in April 2013, Richard Thornton joined UKSA, as Chief Executive, coming from The Prince’s Trust, where he’d been Deputy Director of Operations and formerly Project Office Director.
OnTheWight was told yesterday that Richard was to leave.
This morning UKSA confirmed to us that Mr Thornton will be stepping down in the New Year from the top spot at the Cowes-based charity that focuses on youth development, offering schools and professional training.
Chairing AAIAC
Richard has been at the helm of the organisation for two and a half years and since August this year, he’s been Chair of the AAIAC, the Adventure Activities Industry Advisory Committee, the sector’s lead body for safety in adventure activities.
Off to Australia

UKSA’s Chief Executive, Richard Thornton will be taking up a new position in Melbourne, Australia in the New Year and will be leave the organisation.
Richard joined UKSA, in June 2013 and has brought a massive amount of direction and creativity to the organisation. Richard leaves a highly experienced senior management team in place, to continue the highly successful growth UKSA has experienced in recent years.
Richard Thornton said:

I leave UKSA in very good hands with highly committed trustees and a senior management team that will ensure the continued growth and development over the coming months and years.”
The trustees of UKSA will make an announcement of the succession plan within the next couple of weeks.
