Thanks to Jessica for details of this year’s UKSA college awards. In her own words. Ed
For the second year running two students from alternative education provider UKSA have won awards at the IW College Awards.
Held at Cowes Yacht Haven (30 June 2011), Charlie McCallum, 17 and Phil Ryan, 19 have both received awards for Outstanding Achievement.
NVQ and more
They completed a City & Guilds NVQ in Activity Leadership at UKSA which delivered the course in partnership with the IW College. As well as successfully passing the NVQ, Charlie and Phil also gained vocational qualifications such as RYA Powerboat Level 2, RYA First Aid at Sea and a BCU 2 Star in kayaking.
Further Education Co-ordinator Gary Kurth says “We are proud of all our NVQ students for their dedication and enthusiasm throughout the course. We are exceptionally pleased that Charlie and Phil’s high standard of work, motivation and commitment to complete voluntary work experience has been recognised by their awards.”
Continuing with apprenticeship
Both Charlie and Phil plan to complete a Watersports Apprenticeship at UKSA and work towards becoming part of the Watersports team in 2012.
Phil says “I wanted my studies to be relevant to a career in the watersports and leisure industries. The course at UKSA was really hands-on, I’ve learnt a lot, made some great friends and am looking forward to starting the Watersports Apprenticeship in September.”
New course on offer in the Autumn
This September UKSA are launching a new course in ‘Marine Industry Leadership’, offering an even wider range of academic and vocational qualifications alongside practical learning with industry professionals.
