Unprecedented demand and staff shortages means changes for youth counselling services

Isle of Wight Youth Trust is having to make adjustments to their services due to unprecedented high demand and staff shortages.

The Trust say they’ve had an average of 115 young people reaching out to them for support every month since March.

As well as seeing the increase in those reaching out for support, the reasons young people need support are increasingly complex.

Adjustment to services
Whilst the Youth Trust address their current staff shortages, they are having to adjusts how they deliver services.

From today (Monday) the Youth Trust will temporarily pause their intake of referrals for one-to-one counselling. This is being done so they can manage the waiting list.

Reviewed weekly
The situation will be reviewed every week and they’ll start accepting referrals as soon as they can.

If you are already on the waiting list you don’t need to do anything, they say they’ll get to you as soon as they can.

Youth Mental Health Drop In
Jo Dare, CEO of Isle of Wight Trust, said,

“While we are not able to take new referrals for counselling at this time, we will be continuing to deliver our services and would like to highlight our Youth Mental Health Drop In, which is open from our Hub on Pyle Street every Wednesday from 2pm -5pm.

“We will also continue to deliver training and information sessions for parents.”
