Update: Scoccia & Fitzgerald-Bond On School Closures

Johnny Basildon Bond We’ve been meaning to post an update on our piece about the position of Ventnor’s two county councillors — Cllr Fitzgerald-Bond and Cllr Scoccia — on the closure of Island schools.

We’d half written it ages back, then ebod has prompted us, though a comment on the original posting into telling you what we found out. We wanted to give them the long amount of time to reply, so given the vote is today, we thought we’d better get the piece out to you.

Quick Recap: We originally wrote to the councillors on 28th January. Having not heard back, we rather-keenly wrote to them again the next day.

Susan Gotcha, Ventnor WestClr Scoccia wrote back to us after that one to tell us …

Sorry Simon but I had not had time to reply.
As we have only just begun the period of consultation, I have certainly not made up my mind. I shall be taking this time to speak to and listen to as many people as possible in Ventnor, which is the object of a consultation period. I will then make up my mind.

Being that it was a completely non-committal, sitting-on-the-fence type reply, we knocked back a quick mail to her mail …

Do you think any of the primary schools in Ventnor should close?

… to which we’ve had no reply.

Cllr Jonathan Seaver Fitzgerald-Bond
Mr Jonathan Seaver Fitzgerald-Bond, while having time to try and amuse fellow councillors cracking self-satisfied jokes in the council chambers, didn’t have the decency to reply to our emails.

Pity that parents concerned about the future of their child’s education can’t get an answer from the person that has been voted to represent them at the county council level.

Frankly, on his past performance of representing his constituents, we’re not surprised that he hasn’t bothered.

Well, here we are on the day of the Council vote, still none the wiser. We’ll make sure that we keep an eye out for which way they vote tonight and let you know.
