It’s just two weeks since we had our massive move to On The Wight. The reaction from nearly everyone has been very positive, so thanks very much for those kind words. Your support is much appreciated. Even those who told us it was a bad idea have, now we’ve launched, told us they like it.
Applying some love and attention
As you can see the ‘Beta’ tag is next to our logo and that’s because we know that we haven’t got everything right with the site. There are things that we need to pay some love and attention to. One of those is commenting.
Over the years an amazing number of you have left a phenomenal number of comments – close to 70,000 of them.
Since the move to On The Wight the frantic pace of commenting has reduced. We’re not surprised that it slowed down – it was bound to happen with a major shift as we’ve had. Happily it’s picking up again now as you settle in with the new, drastically different layout.
Comments needed some work
We’ve not been 100% happy with the way that the comments have been laid out on the new site. To us it felt a bit jumbled, over-compressed and generally just a bit messy, so it’s one of the first things that is getting a tune up.
We’ve uncluttered the comments, re-arranging the pieces of information, so as to make them easier to understand, without them tripping over each other. The name of the commenter has increased is size, because we think it’s important that your contribution is well-marked.
Simplifying comment voting
We’ve made the Vote up/down button a lot easier to make out, even for those who don’t have great eyesight. On top of that we’ve reversed the previous order of them – so the Up vote is the first one you come to – because we know you’re a positive bunch.
There’s more for us to do, we know, but we wanted to make the current changes live, so you could get familiar with them.
