The acclaimed pianist, Varvara Maggs, will be gracing All Saints’ Church, Queens’ Road, Ryde later this month.
The event, scheduled for 17th June (7pm), promises an evening immersed in the genius of Frederic Chopin, a composer whose works Varvara interprets with remarkable sensitivity and depth.
Five pieces by Chopin
The programme will feature five pieces by Chopin, a selection that will no doubt showcase the pianist’s profound understanding of the Polish composer’s rich body of work.
The pianist
Varvara Maggs was a legendary child pianist in St Petersburg, Russia. At the age of eight she won first prize in the St Petersburg Concerto Competition for Young Pianists. She performed Kabalevsky’s Piano Concerto N3 with the St Petersburg State Conservatoire Orchestra conducted by Mariss Jansons.
At the tender age of ten she performed Beethoven Piano Concerto N2 with the Rimsky-Korsakov Symphony Orchestra conducted by Algirdas Paulavicius.
At fourteen she entered the Mussorgsky Music College, having obtained the highest entrance marks in the history of the college. Shortly after her graduation from St Petersburg Conservatoire she moved to the UK.
A firm favourite
It is no secret that the Isle of Wight holds a special place in the pianist’s heart. In her previous visits, the Island’s exceptionally enthusiastic and friendly audience has won her over, making it her favourite place to perform.
Free entry
Entry to this concert will be free of charge, however, there will be a retiring collection. A practice that combines the accessibility of free entry with the opportunity for attendees to contribute according to their appreciation and means.
Mark the date on your calendars (7pm on Saturday 17th June) and prepare for a remarkable evening of music and camaraderie at All Saints’ Church.
