Vectis Isle Pioneers take on second round of the Championship

Wayne shares this latest report from the Vectis Isle Pioneers Mcc. Ed

Chapel Furlong Farm, Hulverstone, was the venue for the second round of the 2016/17 Vectis Isle Pioneers mcc trials Championship.

The Club would like to thank Mr Todd Carder for the use of this excellent venue. Thanks also are in order to course setter – Howard Jacobs. Howard presented us with eight tight and technical sections that tested everyone. Thanks to Christine Jacobs for her organisation skills and for processing the results.

Youth riders
Only two Youth riders, Jos Wright (Sportsman) and Harrison Crickmore (Youth Beginner, under 80cc).

Jos completed the trial with an amazing total of just twelve – very good effort Jos. Harrison Crickmore found some of the sections rather challenging, not helped by a tumble in a bunch of stinging nettles – ouch! However, he completed the trial to gain himself ten Championship points.

Adult classes
The Adult Beginner class proved to be a very close contest between Phil Silvester and Kerry Jacobs. In a reversal of fortune from last month’s trial Phil took the win by just four marks.

John Townsend, riding unopposed, grabbed the points in the British Bike class. Nick Symes who also rode unopposed (Twin Shock class) and despite seeming to struggle on section four did well enough to notch up his ten Championship points.

Novice races
In the well-contested Novice group of riders, Paul Kent reigned supreme to take a well- deserved win from Wayne Brodie in second with the improving James Craven in third. Paul finished the trial with the lowest total of the day – with only seven dropped marks – excellent riding Paul. Clubman rider Scott Milton also finished with an impressive total of sixteen – great effort Scott.

Mark Coombes proved to be the clear winner of the Intermediate class, thirty marks between him and second place finisher Geoff Taylor. Mike Taylor finished just a single mark behind brother Geoff to take third spot.

We must spare a thought for Malcolm Hawkins who literally worked his boots off – by the end of the day his ‘boots’ were mostly stretched duck-tape with just a bit of leather here and there! Malcolm did very well, despite the boot problem, to finish just three marks behind Mike in fourth place.

Next meeting
The Club next meet on Sunday June 26th, for the unique annual three stage time trial. This event is held in memory of the Club’s Former President – Dave Lee.

If you have not competed or seen the three stage trial before, I can assure you it’s not one to miss!

The full details will be available from the Club Website nearer the time, I look forward to seeing you all then.
