Ventnor Fringe Festival: Open for entries

Hot on the heel of the announcement by the Isle of Wight Film Festival, this in from Ventnor Fringe festival HQ. Ed

Applications are officially open to perform at the fourth Ventnor Fringe Festival, taking place from the 14th – 17th August 2013 to coincide with the 124th Ventnor Carnival Celebrations.

An estimated 300 performers are expected to take part this year making it one of the largest creative gatherings on the Island. As always, applications are open to artists or groups from any creative medium and at any stage of their career to bring a show or exhibition to the Festival.

How it works
All performers pay a small application fee and hire their own venues through the Fringe and in return receive 100% of their own ticket sales. Applications can be made through a new ‘MyFringe’ feature on the Website www.vfringe.co.uk

Inspired by the famous Edinburgh Fringe, audiences have the freedom to purchase tickets specifically for events they want to see.

Unique environment to celebrate new work
Festival Director Jack Whitewood explained: “The Ventnor Fringe has begun to really establish itself as the Island’s alternative arts festival, offering a unique environment to create, showcase and celebrate new work. 2013 looks set to be another big step up with lots of new additions to be announced in the coming weeks and months. It’s amazing it all started as a tiny project by a group of local students.”

Overnight camping
One such new addition is the introduction of camping for both performers and the general public providing an affordable way to stay in Ventnor during the Fringe.

Camping passes (which include a free shuttle service around the town) are priced at between £10- £15 a night and go on sale from the Website.

The Fringe has also teamed up with Boutique camping experts, Vintage Vacations, to provide airstream caravans, tipis and more for those looking to take away the hassle of camping.
