Many in Ventnor feel that they’ve been pretty much left to their own resources since the snow started falling on Tuesday night.
This has mostly been down to the roads being inaccessible – as there hasn’t been much gritting going on down here (if any in the last three days), much to the discontent of some.
As vehicles can’t make it along the roads, deliveries have been few and far between.
Icy roads = not much food
Those who work at the local supermarket have done a great job of keeping the shop open (with some walking in the treacherous conditions from as far as Wroxall), but there just hasn’t been the food deliveries to stock the shelves.
When we popped along yesterday, we found no bread; milk; vegetables; meat or frozen food. Even supplies of flour were getting low as people went back to the old style skills of making their own bread. Shock, horror, it even looked like supplies of lager were running low.
We understand from Debby Robinson, who has been spoken to highways about the situation that gritting lorries will be blessing Ventnor’s main roads with their salt today.
Hopefully the delivery lorries will follow shortly afterwards.
