We’ve not been back to Vestas in Newport this morning yet, but wanted to bring you the latest on the workers sit-in. We thought we’d go to a reliable source – Matt Treacy of BBC Solent.
Matt has been there since early this morning.
- The Vestas workers outside the plant are asking Islanders to turn up at Vestas Newport plant at 6pm tonight to show their support
- A new banner has appeared overnight – “Starved to saved green jobs”
- Vestas management have asked their Newport workers not to turn up today, but to leave their mobile phones on this afternoon for updates
- The people who have been there overnight (there’s half a dozen tents on the roundabout) are still in good spirits, appearing to be ready for the long haul
- There are less police there than yesterday
