Walking, wildlife and well-being: A unique YouTube journey on the Isle of Wight

Two Isle of Wight residents have taken to their boots and launched a unique YouTube channel, “Talk the Walk”.

Lucy Thorn and Kyle Talbot, both key workers who relocated to the Island in 2010 and 2015 respectively, have combined their love for Island life, history, wildlife, and walking to create a captivating video experience.

Finding solace in nature during Lockdown
Their journey began during the COVID-19 lockdown when they discovered the therapeutic effects of immersing themselves in the Island’s natural beauty.

The sound of waves and bird songs, once simple pleasures, became essential to their mental well-being. Lucy was particularly struck by the Island’s natural beauty, which she admits gave her a renewed appreciation for the natural world.

Interweaving interests and skills
A sentiment echoed by Kyle, who has a keen interest in wildlife photography, a skill he incorporates into the videos they share on their channel. The pair’s explorations led them to uncover parts of the Island they had never known, despite having lived there for years.

This spirit of discovery, coupled with their passion for the outdoors, is captured in each episode of “Talk the Walk”, making viewers feel as if they too are wandering the coastlines and countryside of the Isle of Wight.

A call to the Great Outdoors
The channel is more than just an outdoor adventure. It’s a heartfelt invitation for others to step outside and experience the world around them, to feel the benefits of nature firsthand, and perhaps even to inspire a love for walking.

When they’re not walking or working, Lucy enjoys baking and watching television, while Kyle has a penchant for editing photos and videos and indulging in gaming.

Creativity at the heart of Talk the Walk
Their hobbies, though different, reflect their shared creativity, which is at the heart of “Talk the Walk”. Their commitment to promoting the joys of walking and the enchanting allure of the Isle of Wight are vividly captured in their YouTube channel.

“Talk the Walk” is a beautiful testament to the power of nature, a shared passion, and the simple act of taking a walk.

Digital explorers inspiring physical journeys
Even as Lucy and Kyle continue to explore their Island home, they are also embarking on a digital journey, sharing their experiences with viewers across the UK and beyond.

In doing so, they are not only showcasing the Isle of Wight’s beauty but also inspiring others to take time to appreciate their own surroundings.

Talk the Walk: An invitation to explore
Through “Talk the Walk”, Lucy Thorn and Kyle Talbot are showing us the way — to walk, to explore, and to appreciate the world around us. It’s a journey well worth taking.
