IW Lit Fest presentation

Watch again: This year’s Digital Isle of Wight Literary Festival

The trustees of the Isle of Wight Literary Festival are delighted to announce that this year’s digital festival is now available free of charge on playback.

Maggie Ankers, Chair of the Isle of Wight Literary Festival said,

“We were determined to continue with our annual festival this year, to make great authors accessible to Island residents and visitors.

“We were fortunate that the main production team behind last year’s digital festival led by Janet Allan were available and able to bring this year’s together in a very tight time frame.”

Streamed free of charge
Thanks to the generous donations from our sponsors, benefactors, friends and supporters the digital programme was streamed free of charge on 8th-10th October covering a range of topics from history, politics, royalty, crime and fiction.

Opened to invited audience
Introduced by vice patron Alan Titchmarsh, Andrew Lownie opened the festival on Friday night, speaking to an invited audience of sponsors, benefactors, friends and volunteers in the Northwood House Ballroom.

His meticulous historical research revealed fascinating detail behind the scandals embroiling the Duke and Duchess of Windsor post abdication.   Delivered with great humour, Andrew captivated the live audience, and digital viewers too.

Digital Festival speakers
Festival favourites Alexander McCall Smith, Tracy Borman and Josh Barry returned for our second Digital Festival.

The programme included many links to the Isle of Wight.  For sailors – 93 year old Dick Carter talks about the golden age of offshore racing, Stephan Roman introduces his book Isle and Empires, explains the fascinating and unexpected role in the uneasy relationship between Britain and Russia, and the Romanov visit to Cowes in August 1909. Island authors are featured in Write on Wight.

All sessions are now available online – explore the full programme, speaker profiles and follow the links to playback.

Special thanks to Steve Ancell and his team at Airwaves TV who worked with our authors to set up online interviews, record and edit, manage the weekend broadcasts, and provide our YouTube channel.

Dates for 2022
Work is underway to prepare for our 10th Festival – pulling together a stellar programme to delight, inform and enchant our audiences from 6th – 9th October 2022.
