Waterside Pool: Leasehold Disposal Being Recommended

A delegated decision report was released by the council yesterday regarding the future of the Waterside Pool in Ryde.

Waterside PoolReaders will remember that back in November 2010, the council proposed to cease funding the pool. Users of the pool got together pretty quickly to form the Waterside Community Trust (WCT) in order to save the pool from closure.

Leasehold disposal being recommended
Following ongoing negotiations with the Waterside Community Trust and subject to agreement by the full council on 21 September, cabinet member for Economy and Environment, Cllr George Brown, is being recommended to agree to the leasehold disposal of Waterside Pool and adjacent land to the Waterside Community Trust.

The decision is expected to be made in the next week.

Terms of the contract
The contract would include the WCT taking responsibility for the management and maintenance of the boats on Ryde canoe lake.

Whilst the Council will undertake capital works of up to £50,000 in value to replace the changing room boiler, pool filter and pool cover and also to convert the pool boilers to gas fired.

In addition, the Council will also provide a one off grant of £16,061 in the current financial year to assist the Waterside Community Trust to establish its trading position, as well as back office support to the Waterside Community Trust until 31st March 2012.
