Weekly update of Isle of Wight Covid-19 figures: Positive tests, age breakdowns, deaths and hospitalisations

The latest confirmed data for the number of new positive Coronavirus (Covid-19) tests over seven days (16th-23rd March) on the Isle of Wight totals 1,769 – a rate per 100,000 population of 1,254.61.

148 of those are thought to be reinfections (ie. people who have had Covid before and caught it again).

The cumulative total since the pandemic began now stands at 36,716 – a rate per 100,000 population of 26,039.72.

Age breakdown
The table below shows the breakdown of positive Covid-19 tests over the last week for under 20s, 20-59 year olds and 60+ compared to the previous week.

Deaths
The Office for National Statistics report no new deaths during week 10 (deaths that occurred up to 11th March 2022, but were registered up to 19th March 2022).

As of 11th March, the cumulative number of deaths with Covid-19 on the death certificate on the Isle of Wight was 393. Up three from last week.

As of 24th March 2022, the Government Dashboard records the total number of deaths within 28 days of a positive test was 356. Up four from last week.

Covid patients in hospital
The Covid dashboard shows that as of 22nd March the number of Covid-19 patients in hospital was 47. Up seven from last week.

The Government dashboard also reports two of those Covid patients are relying on mechanical ventilation.

Vaccinations
The number of Covid-19 vaccinations given on the Isle of Wight totals 312,314.

The total number of people who have received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, reported up to 23rd March 2022 was 113,389.

The total number of people who have received the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine, reported up to 23rd March 2022 was 108,325.

The total number of people who have received a booster or third dose of Covid-19 vaccine, reported up to 23rd March 2022 was 90,600.

Symptoms
The main symptoms of Coronavirus are:

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
  • Most people with Coronavirus have at least one of these symptoms. Book via the NHS.

Delta variant
Symptoms of the Delta variant have been described in the ZOE Symptom App as:

  • Headaches
  • Sore throats
  • Runny noses
  • Fever

Omicron variant
Symptoms of the Omicron variant have been described in the ZOE Symptom App as:

  • Runny nose
  • Headache
  • Fatigue (mild or severe)
  • Sneezing
  • Sore throat
