Concert in memory of Anthony Minghella launches new arts fund for young people
A concert is being held at Cowes Yacht Haven on 6th May to celebrate the life and work of Anthony Minghella, and to launch a new filmmaking, drama and music fund for young people.
Performers at the concert will include Paul Athey, Mick Cuffe, Jerry Cahill, Martinez, Mike Hugg, Mike Jolliffe, John Lytle, Tim Marshall, Mick Smith, Stickman, John Wroath, and other special guests.
All proceeds from the concert will be donated to Bach&Beckett, the new Anthony Minghella Scholarship Fund set up by Quay Arts.
The fund will provide opportunities for young people to develop their skills and knowledge of filmmaking, drama and music.
Quay Arts Director, Mick Smith, said,
“Quay Arts have a long association with Anthony Minghella – the theatre is named after him and he opened it personally in 1997.
“The aim of the fund is to help grow young film, drama and musical talent on the Isle of Wight, and to provide motivated and talented young people with resources and opportunities to develop and showcase their talents.
“Our plans for the fund, to be called Bach and Beckett – Minghella’s two major discoveries in young adulthood – will include the establishment of a young people’s film group, with the aim of showcasing the finished works at Quay Arts. The money will also be used to subsidise places for motivated and talented young people with limited resources to attend courses and workshops in film, drama and music.
“We are particularly interested in ensuring the fund reflects the wide spectrum of artistic interests and ability that Anthony Minghella himself displayed as well as the recognition that arts are not always easily compartmentalised into separate boxes.
“We would therefore hope that the work produced celebrates the natural creative interplay between different disciplines.”
