Join Shanklin and Sandown Rotary on 11th July for the very first five kilometre dash along the beach of beautiful Sandown Bay on the Isle of Wight, with the occasional splash around the some of the beach groynes.
This beautiful area has the largest bay on the Island which, at low tide, offers a unique run along the hard sand. The run starts at the old Shanklin pier head, and dashes along the beach, under Sandown pier, to finish at Yaverland opposite the Yacht Club.
Over and around the 43 groynes
There are 43 groynes in total to negotiate along the five kilometre run, most of which are a straight run through large gaps in the structures.
The remainder 14 will be splashed around which at low tide will be mostly ankle deep water. Two groynes will be knee deep for a short distance which should cool you off!
Support the local lifeboat
All entrant fees and money raised by Shanklin and Sandown Rotary will be donated to the Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat which you will be running past.
