We’re now three months into the 12 month fundraising campaign for Ventnor Skatepark. The plan is to raise £50,000 so the wooden ramps at the skatepark (which regularly need repairing) can be replaced with a permanent concrete park.
As well as the fantastic Big Art Auction, there have other fundraising activities taking place, such as your chance to win a pair of Bestival tickets for a fiver.
Wight Trash Pale Ale
So what’s next? Step forward traditional Isle of Wight brewer Goddards. You may well have tried the Wight Squirrel sausages, Fuggle-Dee-Dum burgers, Quarr Abbey ale chutney or even steak and Duck’s Folly ale pies.
Goddards have teamed up with skateboarding genius John Cattle to create Wight Trash Pale Ale.
Goddards tell us,
“It’s a 4.5% alc. vol. beer, available in bottles only. This thirst quenching ale brewed using Isle of Wight barley gives a smooth malty taste, sliding into a mellow hoppiness.
“The hoppy aromas come from the cascade and Isle of Wight boadicea hops, grown at Ventnor Botanic Garden.”
Helping skateparks across the Island
How’s this going to help the skatepark you might ask. Well 10p from every bottle goes towards raising funds for skate parks on the Island which provide opportunities for kids (and big kids) to get outside, exercise, expand their boundaries and just have fun.
History of Goddards
The first drop of Goddards beer was brewed 23 years ago – the brewery was started by Anthony and Alix Goddard and is now run by their son-in-law, Patrick Birley.
The team are continually looking for ways to get involved with Island businesses so if you have an idea and think they can help do get in touch!
Wight Trash
John Cattle and his friends (officially) started Wight Trash in 2004, selling T-shirts first, then hoodies, then skateboards.
They’re continually coming up with ways to entertain us and John also runs John Cattle’s Skate Club teaching the next generation to skateboard.
To find out more about this rebel beer, contact Goddards Brewery on 01983 611011 or Wight Trash on 07917 891555.
Of course, readers should be reminded of the importance of responsible drinking.
