Well done to Martin Potter and his team on selling the online classified advert site, Wightbay.
We spoke to him today and the purchasers, Friday Ads, after hearing the story on IW Radio.
Since its launch in 2003, it’s grown well, to the point it has 600 new adverts placed on it a day, Martin tells us.
Discussion with Friday Ads started before xmas and, we hear from Martin, six companies were in the running to buy it. Friday Ads upped their bid and won with highest bid.
The new owner – Friday Ads
Friday Ads, the new owner, has 30 different advertising publications up and down the UK, focused mainly in the south east.
The publications are both online and printed, so we asked Friday Ads if they planned to do a printed advertising paper on the Island, “We’ve no plans to make changes to WightBay currently,” came the reply – so, you never know. They did confirm that they’d keep it as a free advertising platform.
The only change that has occurred is that telephone support will be done from Friday Ads office in Brighton from now on.
CP didn’t buy
It’s interesting that IW County Press didn’t buy the business given they’ve bought the Weekly Ads publication, which was competing with the adverts in the weekly County Press.
