The Wightlink Islanders maintained their unbeaten record so far in 2013 by grabbing a 46-46 draw at Stoke on Saturday night to clinch the Wightlink Shield, which hopefully will be the first of several trophies this year for which room will have to be found in our display cabinet!
Going into Saturday night’s second leg thirty points up on the Staffordshire side following our 61-31 first leg victory over them at Smallbrook last Tuesday, all here at the club were confident of winning the Shield on aggregate and that confidence proved absolutely justified with the final aggregate score being 107-77 in our favour.
The Wightlink Islanders had to battle hard to achieve a share of the spoils last night at Loomer Road and stormed back to do just that after trailing 17-7 after four races, Tom Perry and Darryl Ritchings clinching the draw by finishing first and second respectively in heat 15.
Wightlink Shield Second Leg
Stoke 46: Luke Priest 12, Lee Smart 10, Kyle Hughes 9+1, Ben Reade 6+3, Chris Widman 6+3, Shaun Tedham 3.
Wightlink Islanders: Tom Perry 15, Ben Hopwood 10, Darryl Ritchings 8+2, Adam Ellis 6, Brandon Freemantle 4, Danny Stoneman 2+1, Tom Young 1.
Isle of Wight win 107-77 on aggregate
