VentnorBlog got in touch with Wightlink following the announcement of a ballot by the RMT. Below is Wightlink’s response – Ed
Wightlink have not been informed by the RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime & Transport Workers) of their intention to ballot its members to take industrial action over the recent dismissal of a member of staff.
“Confirm that an employee was dismissed”
However, we can confirm that an employee was dismissed for gross misconduct pending appeal for flagrant disregard for health and safety likely to endanger self or others and for committing an act likely to bring the company into disrepute. As is the case with all disciplinary matters, the company is following ACAS guidelines and its own procedures.
Wightlink has a duty of care to protect the safety of all its staff and customers.
This is an ongoing disciplinary matter and the company can make no further statement.
