This coming Sunday (15th July) the second Wild West Solent Swim takes place seeing 70 swimmers swimming from Hurst Castle to Colwell, Isle of Wight.
The event is organised by West Wight Sports Centre as a fund raiser for its own charity, but 19 other charities are also being supported by the swimmers.
Each swimmer has a target of £250 to raise but many have already exceeded this – organisers are optimistic that the swim will raise £25,000 in total.
Setting off at 7am
Swimmers will set off Yarmouth in ribs at 7am Sunday morning and are transported across to Hurst where they will start the swim at 7.40am.
The fastest swimmers are expected to reach Colwell around 8.15am.
Swimmers are supported by a team of kayakers – 46 in total, together with a small fleet of safety and support boats and two of Freshwater’s Lifeboats.
It’s set to be a spectacular sight and emotions will be running high when the swimmers come ashore.
