With this year’s summer parades cancelled, Sandown Carnival Association launched their Virtual Carnival in July, giving entrants the chance to win £50 by sending in a fancy dress photo.
The Carnival Committee has now voted for the prizewinners in three categories: Children; Adults; and Groups.
Paul Coueslant, Chair of the Carnival Committee, said,
“We had some great entries and any one of a number of really lovely photos might have won in the popular Children’s category.
“We’re now hoping very much that we can welcome back Sandown’s Carnival and Regatta events for 2022, starting with the town’s New Year’s Day fireworks in January.”
Children’s category
Winner: Isabella Pedreschi aged 4 as Rapunzel, with her home-made carnival float ready for when we have parades again.
Second Prize: Oakley Blake aged 3, representing Medina Marching Band.
Third Prize: Amy-Louise Marchant aged 9, with her home-made fairy costume at the Fairy Tree on The Duver.
Adult’s category
Winner: William Bremner, 70 this month, charity fundraiser. He’s asked for his winnings to be donated to the Jon Egging Trust for young people.
Group’s category
Winner: ‘Flower Power’ by Sandown Green Town Volunteers, featuring Colin, Deb, Helen, Janette and Christine.
