That latest artist to exhibit their work in the Aspire Ryde Window Gallery is Ventnor resident, Isabelle Kori.

Isabelle is a first year student at Ruskin School of Art, Oxford University. She studied her Art Foundation year at the Island Innovation VI Form Campus, Isle of Wight.

She is a multidisciplinary artist, currently working in a carnivalesque style and explores our relationship with the inanimate, be this in the form of props, characters or animals.

Neigh 2 window display by Isabelle Kori

‘Neigh II’, a multimedia sculpture
She has installed ‘Neigh II’, a multimedia sculpture for ARCH Window Gallery, Ryde High Street (27th July-14th August 2022) as an exploration of distorted interactions between both the human world and dream world and how these two things become one.

“The human is mostly soft sculpture made out of calico fabric and stuffing while the horse features are made with wire and modroc. The details are done with acrylic paint as well as makeup products : false eyelashes, gems, curtain rope for the hair.

“The distortion in size and space is done deliberately to emphasize the difference in perception of our bodies and selves in the human world, for example the teeth are a plaster cast of my own mouth to give a sense of grounding and identity within the sculpture.

“The positioning of the lady is done to make one question whether she is in fact horse, or is horse human? This exchange between animal and human and the links to myth, religion and dream is something I want to carry on exploring and is why this is the second piece of my series Neigh.

“My carnivalesque style and aesthetic is what allows me to play with things I think, dream and want to explore in a way that accentuates the homemade.”
