Operation Elveden Isle of Wight pair bailed

The couple who were arrested on the Isle of Wight yesterday – one on a Red Funnel car ferry and the other at her home – have now been bailed, it has just been announced.

After their arrest, the pair were questioned at Newport Police station. Their bail conditions specify that they must return, pending further enquiries, in mid-March.

Both were arrested in connection with Operation Elveden, the investigation into payments made to people in the police or public service by newspapers in pursuit of stories.

The Guardian and others have speculated that the woman may have had a connection with the Prison service.
