With Cowes Week on the horizon, final plans are being put in place to prepare for the WightFibre Cowes Cardboard Boat Race.

After a successful 2014 and 2015, the team behind the popular Cowes Week race are expecting the competition to be fierce for 2016 on 7th August.

Still time to register
With only one week left before the race takes place, time is now running out for those who wish to register for this year’s event.

Organiser of the event, Tony Downs, said:

“We’re really excited about this year’s event, and cannot believe how quickly it has come around again.

“We’re now getting ready to stop taking entries, but still have space available for those who want to get in before we do shut off.”

Bigger and better
Tony continued:

“This year’s event is set to be bigger and better than before – and we’re really looking forward to seeing the type of boats people build this year.

“So if you want to register but haven’t done so yet, head to our Website and fill out the form!”

Raising money for UKSA
The race will once again raise money for UKSA, the official charity of the Aberdeen Asset
Management Cowes Week.

Speaking about the event, Ben Willows CEO of UKSA said:

“We are extremely thankful to the organisers and sponsors of the Cardboard Boat Race. As the official charity to Cowes Week it means a lot to us to see the local community supporting our fantastic Charity through this fun and extremely popular event.”

Those who register for this year’s race will receive a free starter pack, courtesy of BetaPak. The starter pack has been designed to help cut costs for those who want to enter, and contains everything needed to make a boat.

Included in the pack is: five (5) Tapes Standard PolyProp Tape, Buff, 48mm x 66m, twelve (12) Cardboard Edge Protectors, 1000 x 50 x 50 x 50 x 3mm, twenty-four (24) single wall 16x14x8 cardboard boxes as well as one (1) Double wall 48x18x18 cardboard box

Managing Director of BetaPak, Jon Carter commented:

“We’re really proud to sponsor this event, and to be able to offer a starter pack to all who register. I am really excited to see what designs people come up with using all that cardboard!”

Entries for this year’s race must be in before 11pm on 2nd August. Registration can now only be made by visiting the Website.
