120 new trees planted as village recreation ground goes under refurbishment

At the end of last month members of Niton and Whitwell Parish Council planted over 120 tree and shrubs on the Niton Recreation Ground.

The planting was part of a project being run by The Woodland Trust. The Parish Council received a mix of Wild Cherry, Rowan, Hazel, Dog Rose, Hawthorn Crab Apple and varieties of Hazel and Willow, all of which are now safely in the ground.

Refurbishing the recreation ground
Cllr Jon Boileau Goad of Niton and Whitwell Parish Council told News OnTheWight,

“The work is in preparation for the refurbishment of the recreation ground on which the Parish Council hopes to provide a trim trail around the edge of the park, a pump track if funds allow, and a new skateboard ramp, made of more suitable material for our area, whilst retaining the best attributes of the current wooden surface.”

Boileau Goad: Adding colour and natural beauty to the area
Cllr Boileau Goad went on to add,

“It is intended for the trees and shrubs to provide cover for people and wildlife, as well as adding colour and natural beauty to the area.

“A small open-centred circular copse of Crab Apple and Dog Rose has been planted in the middle of the grounds and in time, it should provide a peaceful place to sit and picnic or merely lie back and watch the clouds go by overhead.

“Fingers crossed it all works out.”
