At short notice, business people and residents of the Ventnor turned up for a photo-op at lunchtime today.
It’d been arranged by Debbie at the town’s laundrette for the County Press photographer, as they’re doing a piece about the petition raised.
1,200+ signatures in less than a month
The number of signatures has been totted up and stands in excess of 1,200, all collected since VentnorBlog broke the story of the closure of the NatWest bank less than a month ago.
The mood at the photo-shoot was good despite the frustration felt at unwanted closure of one of the two banks in the town. Shop traders are concerned at how they’re going to bank their takings, if the nearest branch is at Shanklin.
Concern about elderly
It’s the elderly in Ventnor that is the biggest concern for the community. The considerable distance to Shanklin is cited most frequently as the major problem with the move.
The feeling among those present and generally in town is town is pretty united – If NatWest are pulling out of Ventnor, we’ll be pulling our accounts out of NatWest!
Keep signing!
If you haven’t signed the petition yet, it’s still available at many shops in Ventnor
