Congratulations to Martyn Cutler, Head Chef at Quay Arts who was awarded the prestigious Isle of Wight Healthy Eating Alliance Award for Hospitality at an awards ceremony held at Quay Arts on Friday night.
Martyn is a talented chef who came to Quay Arts via a Michelin-starred restaurant in France and a stint as an artisan organic cheesemaker in Bath. His fervent commitment to sourcing ingredients locally from the Island’s abundant source of fresh produce is evident in his seasonal home-made menu.
No strawberries or asparagus spears in October, but instead fresh winter yellow and orange root vegetables on the menu alongside locally sourced organic pork. Martyn’s menu changes from day to day with hearty soups, a bounty of delicious homemade main meals, homemade cakes and special gourmet menus made with hand-picked ingredients for events such as the popular Jazz Cafe held once a month.
The competition accepted entries from all cafes, restaurants or public houses on the Isle of Wight. Entrants had to show provision for a variety of healthy choices which are low in fat, sugar and salt, including children’s menus. Other criteria included cooking methods, training to deliver healthy choices, quality and safety methods, customer feedback monitoring, portion size control and local produce sourcing.
The treasured sculptured blue and clear glass award trophy will be on display in the Quay Arts’ Cafe Bar area.
The award is sponsored by IW Primary Care Trust Public Health Department Award for Hospitality.
