Many people have contacted On The Wight telling us that the conditions at the current Cowes High school building are questionable, to say the least.
We’ve now received photos taken at the school. They show significant damage to the building, bordering on dangerous – significant cracks in walls, large patches of damp mould on the ceiling above an electric fire-exit sign and ripped carpets capable of being tripped over.
Wishing to verify the anonymous source, we contacted a pupil at the school who recognised some of the photos as from the Maths corridor at the school.
We’re sending them to Alan Wells, the school’s Chair of Governors, to get his reaction and to find out if he was aware of the poor condition of the building and what steps are being taken to ensure pupil safety.
Ofsted inspection today
We’ve sympathy with the teachers and the pupils at Cowes Enterprise College, who have an Ofsted inspection happening today.
It really can’t be easy for them to have that pressure on top of having to keep being asked to pack and unpack in preparation of their move to the long-delayed new building.
Whole school was cleaned overnight
We wondered what the feeling was inside the school today and asked a pupil, who told us, “Personally I’m amused by how the whole school was cleaned overnight. It was rather funny to find everything packed away nicely this morning.
Pupils: Sympathy for the teachers
“Aside from the teachers being stressed out (as expected) the feeling seems to be sympathising with the teachers and the wonder of the effect of the lack of new school building on our report.
