Chris Whitehouse Tweet on IW #cabal to David Cameron

Cllr Chris Whitehouse ‘hauled’ before IWCA and gives apology for ‘Nasty Cabal’ Tweets

Cllr Chris Whitehouse, “was hauled before the [Isle of Wight] Association to explain his actions and he apologised for making his remarks in the public domain”, it’s been reported.

This was in connection with the Tweets he started sending out on 7th October this year, alleging, “Nasty cabal on #IsleOfWight manipulated by bitter failed former Council Leader trying to unseat excellent Island MP Andrew Turner.”

David Cameron was Tweeted
People included in Cllr Whitehouse’s individually addressed Tweets were David Cameron; the Chief Political Commentator at the Telegraph, Peter Oborne and London Mayor, Boris Johnson.

That evening, OnTheWight ran an article titled ‘Attempt to oust Andrew Turner as 2015 Isle of Wight MP candidate‘, disclosing details of a significant rift in the IWCA for the first time.

Over the following weeks, denials were made by senior figures in the IWCA, as were leaked letters which claimed contrary to this.

Wells: “We demanded his presence”
The snippet in today’s CP has a quote from Alan Wells, IWCA Chairman, which says “We demanded [Cllr Whitehouse’s] presence and he apologised, basically”

We contacted the normally publicity-friendly Cllr Whitehouse, but haven’t as yet heard back from him. We also contacted Alan Wells, but haven’t heard back from him either.

Mischevious souls may say it’s actually Carole Dennett they are trying to unseat…

Only a week ago, in a different context, Chris Whitehouse declared on this site: “I will not be gagged or intimidated by anybody.” Now, on the face of it, he has been. I think that in order to understand what’s going on here you have to appreciate that Whitehouse is a very ambitious man with not much in the way of self-doubt about how high his talents… Read more »

There are clearly times when “His Typical Robustness” has to be put to one side!

Somewhere here we have a new conservative movement (NEWCON), the big problem is knowing whether it is represented by Mr Whitehouse or Mr Wells or neither.

I could not apologise to Mr Wells under any circumstances. I read his CP statement, he has a way with words does Alan Wells. He carefully does not actually say that Wighthouse was wrong, nor does he say he apologised to him. I bet he apologised to the association? Saying ‘we demanded his presence’ is interesting. It is of course Tory party rules that demand a members… Read more »

Mmmm! Interesting! Searching the ICWA website for its Constitution (which I could not find! *), I cam across the following statement “Isle of Wight Council – the Island’s unitary authority, run by the Conservatives” (sic) ICWA in denial or inadvertently revealing an insidious method of control being exercised? :-)) [* BTW one can find the proforma “RULES OF THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY CONSTITUENCY ASSOCIATIONS” in Schedule 7 of… Read more »
