A well-known Isle of Wight museum will be getting a much needed lick of paint at its new premises thanks to the Isle of Wight Council, in partnership with Amey.
The Classic Boat Museum, which has recently moved into its new building at Unit 117 in Medina Village on Bridge Road, Cowes will be given unwanted tins of paint disposed of at Lynnbottom Household Waste and Recycling Centre near Newport.
The paint will be used to spruce up both the interior and exterior of the museum’s new building, with painting due to begin towards the end of October.
Executive member for environment, sustainability and local engagement, Councillor Paul Fuller, said:
“I’m so pleased that the Classic Boat Museum are able to make use of the unwanted paint tins at Lynnbottom, as otherwise it would have to be incinerated to generate energy or disposed of at landfill.
“Reducing, reusing and recycling wherever we can is an excellent way of saving energy and conserving the environment and if we can help each other within our own communities, then that is even better. I hope the public will look forward to seeing the new look Classic Boat Museum when it is finished.”
Jill Bredon from the Classic Boat Museum said:
“The museum appreciates all donations and given the size of our new premises, to purchase new paint would have been very expensive.
“We spoke to Amey to ask about using unwanted paint collected at Lynnbottom and they were more than happy to help. The staff have even offered to take part in the painting when it gets underway which is a fantastic gesture.”
Paul Southall from Amey added:
“We are more than happy to support the Classic Boat Museum. The Island has a rich maritime history and organisations like the Classic Boat Museum play a key part in preserving this.
“This new partnership is a superb example of organisations working together to benefit the Isle of Wight and we look forward to helping the Museum improve their new facility.”
The Classic Boat Museum was first set up in 1996 and until its move to its new premises, was based in East Cowes in Columbine Road.
