A Very Wet Morning in Newchurch (photo gallery)

If you were anywhere near Newchurch yesterday, your experience might’ve been a bit wet. A ruptured water main caused havoc. Local resident and VB reader, Lynn Lansbury, tells us more. Ed

Wellies were required for Newchurch High Street yesterday morning, as water gushed from the 6″ ruptured water main.

Palmers Lane was quite a water feature with a babbling brook effect as the overflow from the High Street cascaded down.

Water-workers were on-hand but now-a-days you need an inspector to give permission before water can be turned off.

So pedestrians had to paddle (no pavement), water-workers had to direct traffic and the flow had to continue wasting water until an inspector became available (at least 1 hour+).
