Drilling for oil in Arreton, Isle of Wight, is a reality.
Exploration for oil was first carried out in Arreton during the 1970s, but in 2016 Solo Oil said that hope ‘modern techniques’ like horizontal drilling will give access to oil. Their Jan 2016 estimate was of 219 million barrels.
The official designation for the license is PEDL 33.
Solo Oil are on record as saying that they don’t envisage that fracking will be used.
